Apple AirPods Max 2 Review: Price in India, Features, and Is It Worth ₹67,900?

Apple has given the AirPods Max 2 the H2 chip – the same processor found in newer AirPods models.

The AirPods Max 2 still remain as the flagship headphones of the company, which is introduced in India at a price of Rs 67,900.

The first over-ear headphone that Apple introduced was that of the AirPods Max released in 2020 in the COVID-19-attacked years. It was selling at a premium as compared to the similar flagship headphones of Sony and Bose, and although it did not record high sales, Apple maintained it in the shelves with very few modifications in five years. In 2026, however, Apple has finally revamped it and renamed it the AirPods max 2. Theoretically, the new model is loaded with features that people have been waiting on since time immemorial at a different price.

However, the greater question is here; was it worth the wait? Are there any headphones that can be relied upon by audiophiles in the high-end market?

5 years! That was the duration that Apple used to update the AirPods Max.

In December 2020, Apple launched the first AirPods Max, marking its entry into the premiums over-ear segment where such brands as Sony and Bose dominated. The design was unique to the headphones, being made of aluminium with support of spatial audio and strong integration with the Apple system, yet they were also very expensive, which limited the number of people willing to spend money on them.

The AirPods Max was never updated to match any other features unlike the AirPods Pro, which has gone through two generations and several updates to its features. What's new in AirPods Max 2

Although the appearance of the new AirPods Max is the same as that of the original, the largest design of the new model is all in the back. The AirPods Max 2 has been equipped with H2 chip by Apple - the same chip that is present in the latest AirPods. This chip supports the enhancement of noise cancelling, intelligence in audio processing, and connectivity between Apple devices. Apple claims that the Max 2 is capable of 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when listening through a USB-C cable, connected with a compatible device, thereby making it possible to listen to music, movies, and games at a higher quality. Apple claims that the reduced audio latency also enhances game responsiveness on both the iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

Apple is also unveiling new capabilities which include a more active noise cancellation, adaptive audio and real time translation capabilities which comes attached to its own software ecosystem. The headphones can be connected to a USB-C port rather than the older Lightning connection, which is compatible with other new Apple hardware. The new model has a studio quality audio recording which may suit podcasters, interviewers, singers and content creators as it may get a better recording of voice articulation.

These upgrades notwithstanding, the entire design is similar to the first generation. The stainless steel frame, mesh headband, and giant ear cups remain the aesthetic features of the product.

Familiar price

The AirPods Max 2 is still the flagship headphones of the company, and it is released in India at a price of Rs 67,900. This price alone puts it way beyond most popular competitors in the over-ear category, even flagship products of Sony and Bose.

AirPods Max 2: Did it pay the price?

Although there are some significant internal improvements with the AirPods Max 2, its failure to include a significant redesign might make some consumers question if the five-year break resulted in a successful upgrade.

Apple, in their turn, does mention that the new model will bring a better audio processing, closer integration with the ecosystem, and other AI-driven features, which are likely to make the AirPods Max 2 remain relevant in the high-end market. When you do not have money as a restriction and all you want is excellent sound combined with intelligent capabilities, the AirPods Max 2 might be a good option.
