| Google launches Gemini-powered ‘Ask Maps’ feature with smarter navigation and Street View previews |
Google has revealed a significant AI enhancement to Google Maps introducing the Ask Maps chatbot and immersive navigation driven by Gemini. The update boasts of smarter trip planning, natural voice direction and previews of the Street View to ease navigation.
Google has recently made the news of an update on Google maps service, which is AI-based. The company declared this in its blog post that there is a new feature called an Ask Maps which is coming together with an updated feature called Immersive navigation in the app. Through this update, Google will integrate its new Gemini models into its well-known navigation service.
Ask Maps in Google Maps
The Ask Maps functionality will be one of the most noticeable changes that users can anticipate out of this update. With the help of this chatbot, users will be able to relate to Google Maps in a more efficient way. It is a feature that enables the user to respond to complicated, real-life questions through the use of natural language, like, "My phone is running dead, where can I charge it without having to stand in a long queue to get a cup of coffee? or "Does it have a lit tennis court which I can play on to-night?
Overall, you basically have the power of natural language conversation of Gemini AI in Google Maps, allowing navigation a bit easier to the explorers and the individuals, who need fast assistance during movement.
Google states that it is also possible to plan trips quickly with the help of this feature. An example would be, say to you, I am going to the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Coral Dunes, and what are your suggestions on any of these stops on the way? Directions, ETAs, and tips given by actual human beings (how to take a back trail, where to get a free entry ticket, etc) will then be provided on the map.
Moreover, Google has made the voice directions of the Maps sound more natural. As an illustration, when leaving the highway in two exits then you will now hear a voice that says something like, pass this exit and the next one will be Illinois 43 South.
Street view surroundings
The blog post also states that users of Google Maps will also receive a preview of the surrounding of the destination using the Street View imagery. In addition, they are also able to receive advice on where to park, where the exits are, etc.
In this functionality, Miriam Daniel, who is the VP of Google, remarked, in a press conference that, with this capability, our team strived to redesign the driving experience with the aim of eliminating the guesswork of trips.
She also noted that immersive navigation is a total change of the navigation experience. It has repackaged graphics, new real-life data that is delivered to you right when you need it, and easier navigation.
At what point can it be expected that this feature will be rolled out?
The Immersive Navigation of Google Maps started to roll out among the Indian and US users. Google is implementing the feature during the next few months to all eligible iOS and Android devices with the addition of CarPlay, Android Auto, and vehicles with Google built-in. The latest update is to be continued to be checked by users through the Google Play Store.
