Lately, I’ve been seeing more stories about AI-powered fraud, fake OTP calls, and phishing messages pretending to be from Unique Identification Authority of India. It’s getting smarter. And unfortunately, more dangerous.
That’s why the new Aadhaar app launched in early 2026 caught my attention. The old mAadhaar app has now been replaced with a new, redesigned Aadhaar App, and honestly, it finally feels built for today’s scam-heavy world.

This is honestly my favorite feature.You can lock your fingerprints and iris instantly.
Once locked, nobody can use your Aadhaar for authentication.
I actually keep mine locked most of the time.
Only unlock when needed. Then lock again.

🆔 Virtual ID (VID)
Instead of sharing your 12-digit Aadhaar number, you can generate a temporary 16-digit Virtual ID.I started using this at hotels and telecom stores.
It feels much safer than sharing the real number.

Less exposure = less risk.
🔢 TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password)
This feature replaces SMS OTPs.Why does this matter?
Because SIM swap scams are increasing.

Go to:Settings → Biometric Lock → Lock
I keep mine locked 24/7.
✔️ Use Virtual ID instead of Aadhaar number
Generate new VID every time you share.✔️ Turn on TOTP
It adds another layer of security.✔️ Check authentication history weekly
It takes 10 seconds. Worth it.❌ Never share:
- OTP
- Aadhaar number
- App PIN
No government agency will ask for these.
